Dharampal Satyapal (DS) Group, makers of Catch Salt and Pass Pass mouth freshener, has launched ‘Chingles’ brand chewing gum. The gum comes in three flavours – Nimbu, Saunf and Mint. It will cost one rupee for a 2.5 gram sachet and Rs. 5 for a 11 g zipper pouch. DS Group will invest around Rs. 150 crore in the venture, its first in the confectionery space. Chingles will be television spot. The confectionery market in India is estimated at a little over Rs. 9,000 crore, of which the chewing gum market is at Rs. 1,600 crore, and growing at 25 percent, according to Euro Monitor and Tata Strategic Management Group reports. The chewing market, which is 27 percent of the total confectionery market, trails sugar confectionery (44.2 percent) and chocolates (28.6 percent)
